Set item level permission in SharePoint list

In this post we will discuss how to modify item level permission in SharePoint list. We can easily apply unique permission to list items in SharePoint.

Follow below steps to give unique permission to list items:

First open the SharePoint list.

Select List Settings from the Ribbon.

Then Select Advanced Settings. The Advanced Settings page will open.

In the Advanced settings page In the Item-level Permissions section, under Read access, keep the default value of Read all items.

And In the Item-level Permissions section, under Create and Edit access, select "Create items and edit items that were created by the user."

Then click on OK.

SharePoint 2013 Permission levels

Below is the out of box permission levels:

Full Control: Has full control.

Design: Can view, add, update, delete, approve, and customize.

Edit: Can add, edit, and delete lists; can view, add, update, and delete list items and documents.

Contribute: Can view, add, update, and delete list items and documents.

Read: Can view pages and list items and download documents.

Limited Access: Can view specifi c lists, document libraries, list items, folders, or documents when given permissions.

View Only: Can view pages, list items, and documents; document types with server-side file handlers can be viewed in the browser but not downloaded.

Create site collection in SharePoint 2013

In this post we will discuss about how to create site collection in SharePoint 2013. Before starting make sure
you should have access to SharePoint 2013 central administration. Also you can check out some new features in SharePoint 2013.

First Open SharePoint 2013 central administration. Then from the Application Management tab, select Create site collection.

This will open the create site collection dialog box. Fill all the details like below:

First select the web application name. Also you can select any web application by changing the link.

Select the Title and Description of the site collection.

Give the URL of the site collection like /Sites/MySiteCollection.

Select the experience version. For SharePoint 2013 site select 2013.

Then from the Select a template for the site collection. From different categories select a template like Team
site or publishing site template.

Then provide the Primary Site Collection Administrator and the Secondary Site Collection Administrator.

Then select the Quota template as No Quota. The primary site collection administrator will have full control to the site collection.

Then click on OK.

New PowerShell cmdlets for OData

SharePoint 2013 includes the following six new Windows PowerShell cmdlets specifically for OData.

Get-SPODataConnectionSetting:
Reads a Business Connectivity Services connection of a BDC service application and returns the Business Connectivity Services connection object.

Get-SPODataConnectionSettingMetadata:
Returns Business Connectivity Services connection metadata properties.

New-SPODataConnectionSetting:
Creates a new Business Data Connectivity connection.

Remove-SPODataConnectionSetting:
Deletes the Business Connectivity Services connection object together with its metadata object.

Set-SPODataConnectionSetting:
Can be used to edit the properties of an existing Business Connectivity Services connection.

Set-SPODataConnectionSettingMetadata:
Can be used to edit metadata properties of an existing Business Connectivity Services connection.
